During the beginning of 2019 we started working with Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in India and, more specifically, the School of Marine Sciences. The school is at the forefront of research into marine sciences and does a huge amount of work in the Indian Ocean and further afield.  As a result of that collaboration David Jones, Just One Ocean Founder and CEO, travelled to India to give a number of presentations on the issues and solutions of plastic pollution in our oceans, as well as some of the research we are conducting.

We are now delighted to say that we have just awarded a grant to the first research student from CUSAT towards her studies.  Soumya Sathyavan is currently undertaking a MPhil at the School of Marine Sciences and is looking at the scale, distribution and impact of microplastics and mesoplastic on the Cochin coastline. She is studying a number of locations which will help us to understand more about the issue in that region.

Whilst this is the first grant to be awarded to Cochin we are planning more so watch this space.

You can find out more about Soumya’s project on her research page.
