Plastic Pollution in our ocean was one of the main topics at the recent Adventure Uncovered Live event held at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London this week and it was a full house. It was the first time that this event had been held and it was a great success. Adventurers and environmentalists provided the audience with some excellent presentations and the opportunity to become involved in the Q&A sessions. Just One Ocean Founder David Jones was on the ‘plastic pollution’ panel which also included representatives from Greenpeace and Surfers Against Sewage. Mangrove forests provide habitat for thousands of species, from fish to birds and even monkeys! Rhesus monkeys (rhesus macaques), Old World monkeys, are omnivores and frequent the mangroves to feed on crab and fish. They like being in the water and can swim well.
Thanks @barnatakats for the photo.

The little blue heron can be found in freshwater and marine environments, including mangroves, bogs, swamps, salt marshes, tidal flats, estuaries, streams, and flooded fields.
They feed during the day, wading in the water with their long legs. Their diet consists of fish, frogs, lizards, turtles, snakes, crabs, shrimp, aquatic and grassland insects.
Little blue herons are classified as Least Concern (LC) on the IUCN Red List but their numbers are decreasing. Today, the biggest threat to this species is the degradation and loss of habitat like mangroves.

Humpback whales are found in oceans around the world. They migrate up to 16,000 km each year, feeding in polar waters and migrating to tropical or subtropical waters to breed and give birth.
Adult females average 15m in length. Calves are born after an 11-month gestation period and are about 4 to 5m in length.
We encountered this mother and newborn calf (probably about 2 days old) in Bahia Magdalena, Baja California, Mexico. At this age the mother helps the calf to the surface to breathe at regular intervals. The mother will nurse the calf for almost a year.

80% of purchases bought over the Black Friday weekend will end up in landfill or incinerated. Less than 1% of the world’s clothes are recycled back into new clothes once they are worn out. It’s a symptom of a bigger issue, and of the take-make-waste economy that results in a truck full of clothing burned or buried every second. To save our planet, we need to make a change. And we need your help. That’s why, this year, instead of discounting our products, we’re reversing Black Friday. We’re asking you to send back your old Just One Ocean clothing so it can be made into new products. You’ll receive store credit for the items you send back. Together, we can end waste. #circulareconomy #takebackfriday

Mangroves are trees and shrubs that grow directly in salty or brackish water in the coastal intertidal zone. Mangrove trees thrive in hot, muddy, salty conditions that would quickly kill most plants.
The benefits of mangroves include:
Their intricate network of roots is attractive for oceanic and freshwater species seeking food and shelter from predators. Mangroves offer critical nursing environments for juveniles of many marine species, from gobies to crocodiles.
Mangroves reduce erosion and improve water quality by filtering pollutants and trapping sediments from land.
Mangroves offer shoreline protection by forming an obstacle to wind and waves. They can significantly decrease the intensity of a storm.
Mangroves play a crucial role in the fight against climate change by storing carbon thereby decreasing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. They can store up to five times more carbon than an equal area of rainforest.
