He had been working as a snorkel guide for a local dive shop and was shocked about the state of the reefs, the fishing practices used by local fishermen, and the trash on the beaches of his island, Zanzibar. He tried talking to the fishermen and the local people by explaining the fragility of the environment and its ecosystems and the need to keep them clean and in good health. He realized that most people he spoke to didn’t know the importance of a healthy environment nor that their behaviour was affecting the environment in such a detrimental way. Haroun decided he needed to take action! He started a project of raising awareness through education.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/2″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”]
Encouraged by the positive response Haroun decided he needed bigger plans and consequently, money. He contacted Just One Ocean to ask for help. We liked Haroun’s enthusiasm and the fact that this is a local project focused on education which is essential to solve the ocean pollution issues. We also love the fact that kids actually get clean a local beach so they can see the difference that their actions make.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/2″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”]
