At the end of last year we applied to Natural England for a grant to provide funding for post graduate research into ocean issues. We were fortunate enough to get the funding and set about writing up the application criteria. This year we sent out an invitation to students at the University of Portsmouth‘s Geography and Environmental Science schools to apply for funding.

We are now delighted to announce that the first three grants have been awarded to students to support their work. The broad research topics are:

  • A comparative analysis of microplastics in mussels
  • Attitudes towards sustainable seafood in the Solent area
  • An examination of voluntary conservation schemes

More details about all three projects are available on our Projects Page and we will be bringing you more information as their research progresses.

In the longer term we are hoping to extend this grant in the future and bring additional universities on board – that will depend on the funding we can collect. For now though we wish all the students good luck in their research and we look forward to seeing the results.
