Microplastic Beach Survey, Phase 2

On 14 March 2018, with the help of around 80 volunteers, we conducted a citizen science microplastic survey in 20 locations around the entrance to Chichester Harbour.  The aim was to take samples from a number of areas across the inter-tidal zone in order to provide information about the extent and location of the microplastics in this internationally important location.

In order to provide some statistical variance of data over time we are now planning phase 2 of the operation.  This is going to take place on Friday 22 June at 9.00 am.

My daughter, Daisy Donaldson (11) is doing a project at school about plastic in the ocean. Her Uncle, Prof. Peter Mumby, a marine biologist in Queensland, is also involved in similar projects in the Philippines. My parents live near the Witterings and I would love to bring Daisy along to help do the field work. Coincidentally, we were searching for plastic on our own beach today, near Mudeford, Dorset!

Hi there, she is more than welcome to come along. Starts around 9.00 and on a Friday though so she may be at school. There are lots of plans to involve schools in the future so keep checking the site.
